"The Counseling Psychologist", ranked as the #1 journal in the psychology field by Thomson Reuters, has announced that it will be publish the manuscript "A Practical Skills Model for Effectively Engaging Clients in Multicultural Settings" by Drs. Alberta and Wood of the Sonoran Research Group, LLC.
The Practical Skills Model is intended to provide professional counselors with a framework to use while seeking to provide counseling services to persons from diverse communities. The model incorporates an error management approach to learning about cultural differences. This approach emphasizes the need for direct interactions with persons from diverse communities as the most effective means for becoming familiar with them. Generally models for developing culturally competent counseling skills rely on error avoidant learning, in which participants are taught how to interact effectively in unfamiliar cultural mileus prior to entering them.
